The Presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State on Monday was disrupted by a sudden crisis between political structures.
The rally that held at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta was disrupted as a result of crisis between APC and APM members.
While the crowd was a mixture of APC and APM supporters, some groups chanted: ‘Ole, Ole!’ while the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole was speaking.
Amosun, the host governor tried to calm the tension, asking his overwhelming supporters to accommodate non-supporters and swallow their anger for the future, when the internal crisis will be resolved.
In his address, he urged the people of Ogun state to vote President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that the gubernatorial election on March 2 would be resolved before hand.
Like in some other states including Imo, Zamfara and Rivers, APC is having internal crisis because of the states’ primaries.
In Ogun state, Amosun’s endorsed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade was not given the Party ticket for governorship while Dapo Abiodun got the ticket.
Over the denial, Akinlade decamped to the Allied People’s Movement to explore his ambition and earned the total support of Amosun.
“Ogun youths, don’t disgrace me before our father, President Muhammadu Buhari. At the poll on February 16, you all should vote APC as your candidate, including those of you flying APM placards. On the other issues, we will resolve that”, Amosun said.
Worthy of note is the fact that Amosun continued in these similar lines of his appeal as the atmosphere got heated because APM supporters were resisting the APC supporters.
Consequently, Oshiomhole was forced to quickly exit the podium as the crowd continued to throw items at the leaders, including President Buhari.
Vice President Osinbajo’s turn seemed to be the only moment the audience calmed their nerves aside the period Amosun appealed to them.
